Eight-year-old boy’s foot gets stuck in Shopping Complex Escalator

On 31 January 2010,An eight-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after his left foot got stuck in a mall escalator.

The incident occurred at about 11.30am yesterday when the boy was accompanying his mother to the shopping mall located near Bandar Utama.

Both mother and son were taking the escalator heading towards the lobby and suddenly his foot got stuck in the space between the steps and started to cry in pain.

Before the Fire and Rescue Department is being contacted, passers-by and tenants around tried to free the boy by using a screwdriver to open the side of the escalator but failed to do so.

Around 11.55am ,Fire and Rescue Department is being contacted by the management.

Firefighters struggled for about an hour before managing to free him.

The boy was later rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Later, he is being referred to the Damansara Medical Specialists Centre for further treatment.

A witness mention that before the the Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived,the boy’s mothers was shouting for assistance and looking helplessly.Her eyes was filled with tears. Members of public and mall staff had tried almost everything but still fail to release the boy’s foot.She hoped the boy would make a full recovery soon.
