Petrol price increase by 5 sen per lite again (12.01am Dec 4)

The prices for RON95 petrol and diesel will increase by 5sen per litre at midnight (12.01am Dec 4) while the prices of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and sugar will be up by 5sen and 20sen per kg respectively.

RON95 would be raised to RM1.90 per litre from the current RM1.85 while price of diesel would be retailed at RM1.80 per litre. LPG and sugar will cost RM1.90 and RM2.10 per kg respectively.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala Idris said the price hike was the second wave of the subsidy rationalisation programme.

Prices of RON95 and diesel went up by 5sen per litre while sugar and LPG were raised by 25sen and RM10 on July 16 for the first wave of the programme.

That resulted in total savings of RM779mil. This time around, Idris said the savings is expected to be RM1.18bil.

Idris said the savings would be channelled towards improving urban transportation network, rural basic infrastructure and roads, education and efforts to combat crime.

He added that the increase was very minimal and should not hurt the people.

“I think it is fair to the rakyat. I believe people will be able to accept it,” he told a media briefing on the second wave of subsidy rationalisation here Friday.

Idris said the Consumer Price Index could be contained in view of the low increase and declined to disclose the amount of subsidy the government would have to pay for the items.

Catch a glimpse of Mars with a naked eye

For the next two months Malaysians can catch a glimpse of Mars which to the naked eye would resemble a bright orange star in the sky.

The sight of the red planet would not be visible to the naked eye again until March 2012.

He said Mars could be seen clearly from Monday at 9pm, when the moon and the planet converge for a bright conjunction while the red planet is directly opposite the sun.

Early morning fire at the 1Utama Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)

An early morning fire at the 1Utama Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) here had the company issuing ticket refunds up to RM20,000 to its customers.

Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd operations manager, Steven Kon told The Star that the cinema would only resume business at 10am today after being closed for a day yesterday.

At press time, the company was still issuing refunds to customers who had missed the shows due to the blaze.

The fire was believed to have started at about 12.05am yesterday after smoke was seen billowing from underneath the shutters of the cinema’s cafe, said Kon.

“My workers were the first ones to realise a fire had started. They immediately contacted the fire department,” he said.

He added the fire was put out by 4am by a team of firemen from a nearby station.

Kon said almost all of those who had made prior bookings had claimed their refunds.

“Only a handful, unaware of the fire came, for the scheduled shows. They were informed about the refund entitlement and were presented with complimentary tickets.”

One of them, college student Karissa Ivo, 21 had gone to the cinema with friends, expecting to watch a 10.30pm movie.

“I’m disappointed but glad I got my money back and I was also been given two complimentary tickets.”

Petronas Twin Tower in support for earth hour 2010

It was lights-off by 8.30pm at the Petronas Twin Towers Saturday night as the 2010 Earth Hour was observed for an hour.

All non-essential lights at Suria KLCC, including the retail centre’s facade, were turned off for a full 60 minutes. Many retailers and eateries were seen joining in the global conservation effort and patrons were seen dining by candlelight.

By 7.45pm, the compound of Suria KLCC was filled with thousands of people, all eagerly waiting for the lights of the twin towers to be switched off, section by section.

The crowd started to cheer as the lights were switched off starting from the upper section of the towers.

A group of six college students stood out in the crowd as they lit up tea-light candles, arranged in the shape of the figure “60”, symbolizing the Earth Day hour-long lights-off.

Eight-year-old boy’s foot gets stuck in Shopping Complex Escalator

On 31 January 2010,An eight-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after his left foot got stuck in a mall escalator.

The incident occurred at about 11.30am yesterday when the boy was accompanying his mother to the shopping mall located near Bandar Utama.

Both mother and son were taking the escalator heading towards the lobby and suddenly his foot got stuck in the space between the steps and started to cry in pain.

Before the Fire and Rescue Department is being contacted, passers-by and tenants around tried to free the boy by using a screwdriver to open the side of the escalator but failed to do so.

Around 11.55am ,Fire and Rescue Department is being contacted by the management.

Firefighters struggled for about an hour before managing to free him.

The boy was later rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Later, he is being referred to the Damansara Medical Specialists Centre for further treatment.

A witness mention that before the the Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived,the boy’s mothers was shouting for assistance and looking helplessly.Her eyes was filled with tears. Members of public and mall staff had tried almost everything but still fail to release the boy’s foot.She hoped the boy would make a full recovery soon.

2010 - The Year of The Tiger

The Chinese use the lunar calendar for celebratory events which includes the New Year. This falls somewhere between late January and early February. The cycle of twelve animal signs originates from Chinese tradition as a way of naming the years. The animals follow one another in an established order and are replicated every twelve years. The rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig are the twelve animal signs. Every animal has particular characteristics and people born in a specific year are believed to take on these characteristics.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, which commences on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. The Tiger is the third sign in the Chinese Zodiac cycle, and it is a sign of bravery. This courageous and fiery fighter is admired by the ancient Chinese as the sign that keeps away the three main tragedies of a household. These are fire, thieves and ghosts.

Tigers are physically powerful, gracious, independent and brave, they are extremely bold animals. They are friendly and loving but can also selfish and short tempered. Tigers seek attention and power; frequently they are envious in a relation. Tigers live dangerously which often leads to trouble. They are intolerant, take risks and are always searching for excitement. Tigers are also instilled with a good dose of courage.

The Tiger has an overpowering attraction and is very kind and always takes on the character as protector. The Tiger flourishes by power and attention and takes advantage of all circumstances it gets itself into. The Tiger is a natural leader and loves to be the centre of attention. As a rebel it goes up against authority and speaks out about wrongs in society, and willingly puts up objections. Even if you don’t agree with the beliefs of the tiger you admire his way to protest.

Before the commencement of the match,we are given to practice with 10 bullets each before the actual match.

Each color group are divided into teams.Team 1 and Team 2.

Total teams that are going to compete are 8 teams .

1) Mask must be worn at all times until the marshal give orders to remove. (Breaking this rule,immediate disqualification of the team)

2)Barrel Covers need to be attached till orders are given to remove.

3)Safety lock button must be switch to off and own with the instruction by the marshal.

4) If you are being hit,go back to base and start all the way from the back.This also applies for the flag taker where the flag needed to be dropped upon being shot.

5) The first team to get the flag all the way back to their base ,wins!

Overall,the game is interesting and i will always remember the part where Yellow Team Supports not their own Color but Pink Team during the paintball game,This is what we call sportsmanship! ^^,
